support sport and recreation organisations understand the process for
applying for and effectively managing grants. This resource

A Guide for Incorporated Associations
There are a number of key legal obligations and rights that apply to
associations once they are incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act 1987. WA
Sports Federation encourages Members to become familiar with the Act and
has developed an information sheet to explain what it means
to be an incorporated association.
As a supplement, a checklist has been included to
assist organisations understand how to meet obligations under
the Act and perform their role more effectively. This
checklist provides a starting point to assess your current
practices and
identify areas that may need to be revisited, with links to further
information.

Management
Sport and recreation organisations can be exposed
to a wide range of risks depending on the activities in which they are
involved. Some will have minimal impact and can be managed easily
and others may threaten the longevity of an organisation.
The following information sheet has been produced
for Members to define risk
management and outline the processes and steps to take
to achieve sound risk management practices.

organisation has different governance and administrative
structures which require individual risk management strategies,

The New Workplace Relations System - What you
need to do to prepare for the changes
1 July 2009 marked the beginning of a new industrial
relations system in Australia. The majority of the Federal
Government's industrial relations laws contained in the Fair Work Act 2009 commenced
operation on 1 July 2009. It is important to find out how these
changes will effect your organisation.
It is important to be aware of the new industrial relations
system and the areas that will see the most immediate change. The
following information sheet is a supplement to the 'Understanding
the Fair Work Act' Guide above. It has been developed to provide
a
broad overview of the key aspects of the new industrial relations
system that will be implemented through the introduction of the Fair
Work Act 2009 from 1 July 2009.

Information Seminar
A free information seminar for WA Sports Federation members was held on
22 December 2009. This seminar, supported by the Department of
Sport and Recreation, conducted by Chamber of Commerce and Industry,
provided WA Sports Federation members with an overview of the new
Federal Industrial Relations legislation. The seminar covered:
